VERNETZT DENKEN; VERNETZT BEHANDELN - A PODCAST BY THE LOEWE RESEARCH CENTER DYNAMIC AT THE FOREFRONT OF MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH

“The brain is a dynamic network.” This opening statement sets the stage for a new science podcast dedicated to mental health – one of the defining issues of our time. Research into mental health problems is evolving rapidly. It is no longer confined to psychologists and psychiatrists alone; for years now, the field has been expanding to include neuroscience, machine learning, and AI technology.

At the same time, mental health has become a central topic of public debate. Yet, just as societal discussions vary, so too do the research methods and perspectives within the scientific community. In October 2025, the LOEWE Research Center DYNAMIC launched its own in-house science podcast Vernetzt Denken, Vernetzt Behandeln, to harness the potential of such a broad and interdisciplinary research network.

The aim of the format is to put scientists and their specific research interests center stage. What drives them to study mental health problems? In which areas and through what methods? Most importantly, how can their work deepen our understanding of mental health and improve current treatment approaches?

After all, the brain is not the only thing that functions as a dynamic network. Throughout the episodes, guests discuss the potentials of network approaches, as well as the role of cutting-edge technologies for collecting and analyzing complex datasets that can reveal new links between symptoms. However, not every assessment is purely optimistic.

The network approach – which views mental health problems as the result of intricate interactions between symptoms and circumstances – is mostly seen as offering innovative insights. At the same time, concerns remain regarding the ethical and transparent use of AI models. Vernetzt Denken, Vernetzt Behandeln provides the space for these diverse perspectives, presenting research in an open and authentic way.

The range of topics covered in the first episodes is vast: from everyday issues such as rumination and supporting parents and children facing psychological distress, to the relevance of neurobiology and psychoactive substances, and deep-dives into specific research projects within LOEWE-DYNAMIC. Both newcomers and seasoned researchers will gain unique insights into the field.

As these conversations reveal: science is not a single perspective but a continuous discourse. Diverse assumptions are continuously tested, all with the aim of improving prevention and care for people with mental health problems. Vernetzt Denken, Vernetzt Behandeln brings these various perspectives together, creating a format that fosters sustained dialogue – inviting listeners not only to tune in, but to think along and join the conversation.

Vernetzt Denken, Vernetzt Behandeln is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music.
